THREAT TO RURAL POST OFFICES
There has been much coverage recently in both national and local press about the possible closure of rural Post Offices.
While our Post Office in Prestbury is not under immediate threat of closure there can be little doubt that both the Government and the Royal Mail itself envisages fewer rural offices in the future.
The Government is currently undertaking a national public consultation into the future provision of Post Office services. The Parish Council has responded to this arguing strongly for the continued provision of village Post Offices in the form that has served us well in the past and, we believe, continues to provide an essential and valued service to the community.
If you would like to support this case you can contribute to the consultation. Details can be found at the link given below. If you have difficulty accessing this via the web the Post Office can help.
The consultation closes on 8th March.
Of course, the most effective contribution we can make is to use the services that the Post Office provides.
